Flight to Khuvsgul Lake
A short flight to northern Mongolia brings you to Khuvsgul, the country's deepest lake. This stunning body of water is the third most voluminous lake in Asia, holding 70% of Mongolia's freshwater reserves. At 265 meters deep, it lies within a tectonic rift surrounded by the expansive Siberian taiga. After landing, we drive over an hour to a charming lakeside resort, where you can spend the day hiking along the shore and taking in breathtaking views reflected in the crystal-clear waters. Optionally, you can book a motorboat ride to explore the lake and the pristine wilderness. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner, ger camp)
-
Hike to the Bird's Eye Viewpoint of the Lake
After breakfast, we embark on a short drive to the base of the Bayan mountain range, which runs alongside the lake. This area is blanketed in ancient larch forests, while the ridgetops rise well above the tree line. Our hike covers 7 km along faint paths as we navigate the steep slopes. Beyond the treeline, the landscape transforms into a rugged, rocky ridge. At the summit, reaching 2380 meters, we enjoy a well-deserved lunch with breathtaking views of the expansive lake and lush green slopes below. We return to camp in the late afternoon. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner, ger camp)

Hike the Tola Mountain Ridge and Visit the Deer Stelae Complex
Departing from the lake, we drive to a small mountain range where each hilltop features stunning granite outcrops. We’ll spend 2-3 hours hiking through this serene natural landscape. Our next destination is a fascinating historical site with 30 Deer Stelae and burial mounds. These megaliths are adorned with intricate carvings of flying deer, serving as ritual markers for Bronze Age nobility. In the evening, we relax at a cozy resort overlooking the Delger River. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner, ger camp)

Horse Riding and Paddling Day
After breakfast, embark on a half-day horseback riding excursion along the Delgermurun River valley. Riding stocky Mongolian horses requires skills quite different from those used in Western riding styles. These horses respond to a different set of commands and rider behaviors, yet they are still very responsive and intelligent animals. Accompanied by local guides, you’ll ride across open grasslands on terrain suitable for all paces: trotting, galloping, and racing. The guides will lead the way and share their knowledge of nomadic culture.
After a picnic lunch by the riverbank, gear up for a couple of hours of kayaking or rafting. As you paddle, take in the picturesque scenery of lush grasslands and rolling hills. The Delgermurun River, known for its clear waters, provides the opportunity to spot various bird species. It’s a perfect blend of relaxation and fun as you navigate gentle currents and enjoy the serene environment. At the end of the day, we return to the comforts of the riverside resort. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner, ger camp)
